Sheer Khurma

What a shame! I forgot Preeti's birthday in this Facebook age! After we completed schooling together and went our ways, I always thought of her on her special day. And there was no Fb then! And now when there is, there is too much else too. Everybody is wishing everybody Happy New Year, somebody says happy Ambedkar Jayanti, somebody else sends a BranchOut request, another wants you to join her on LinkedIn and everybody feels connected but nobody is too sure if he/she really is. Because, at the end of the day, nobody can know anything about anybody that somebody doesn't want anybody to know.
Life was simpler back then. Preeti & I cycled back from school together and chatted on the way. Chat meant a verbal chat, unlike what we do online these days. When it rained, we took out our raincoat, covered our bag with it & felt like superstars cycling in the rain. When I ran into a scooter one afternoon, Preeti bravely stood by me & gleefully shared the story the next day with the VAGAPSS gang. It was an age of no cellphones and, often, no landline either. She rode all the way from school one day to fetch me from home because I'd confused my exam sitting between morning & afternoon! So many happy memories, so long ago....
This Sheer Khurma is for Preeti Viuli, nee, Sablok. Wishing you a fulfilling today and a rewarding life ahead. The smartest thing one can do when a jhatpat dessert is to be served is Sheer Khurma. Always keep a packet handy.
                                                                                              Remember that giraffe joke?
How do you put a giraffe in the fridge in three steps?
Open the door, shove the giraffe inside, close the door.

Ok, so how do you make SK?
1. Boil the milk.
2. Add Sheer Khurma and boil for ten minutes till vermicelli softens.
3. Serve HOT! Cold is equally finger-licking.
So you know the ingredients :)
                                                                                                                                          Ingredients:
1. 1 ltr whole/full cream milk
2. 1 pkt Sheer Khurma

This is vermicelli with lots of dry fruit & such a heavenly zafran flavour that my guy wants to now cross the border, having eaten this dish that is made in Pakistan, and may even want to settle there, because he had that delectable  Nehari which has also come to us from our padosi desh. Allah bless them for such awesome food. Why can't we be friends, God!

Here's some served for you Preeti. Enjoi!

Of course you can not buy the packet and make it from scratch but c'mon, this is your special day & you want your rest too, don't you! So some other day, girl, when we both feel like spending more time in the kitchen, I'll tell you the recipe from start to finish.
Btw, do you know how to put an elephant in the fridge in four steps? You do! Good. You were always sharp:) What? U don't?! Go figure it out. I'll see you soon :)
